Frederick Lauritzen studied classics at New College in Oxford and wrote his phd thesis at Columbia Univerity, New York. He is member of the Fondazione per le Scienze Religiose of Bologna since 2008 and member of the Academie Internationale des Sciences Religieuses since 2011. His research is centred on byzantine literature and culture. In Bologna he has focused on the history of synods of the Orthodox church in the Byzantine Empire.
