Miriam Camerini (Gerusalemme 1983), cresciuta a Milano, laureata in lettere moderne con tesi in storia del teatro tedesco sul “Nathan il saggio” di Gotthold Ephraim Lessing, ha studiato regia con Cesare Lievi, di cui é stata assistente all’Opera di Zurigo. Ha studiato recitazione alla scuola Paolo Grassi di Milano e canto con Lee Colbert e Camilla Barbarito.
Ha studiato Bibbia e letteratura rabbinica (Talmud) all’Istituto Pardes di Gerusalemme, frequentato un Master in studi teatrali presso l’università ebraica di Gerusalemme. Attualmente iscritta al primo anno di studi rabbinici presso l’istituto Har’El di Gerusalemme, il primo a conferire l’ordinazione rabbinica alle donne, nel mondo ebraico ortodosso.
Lavora a Milano, in Italia e in Europa come regista, attrice e cantante. Ha fondato e dirige Benhashmashot | Tra i due soli, teatro ebraico con sede a Milano.
Tra i suoi spettacoli: “Il Processo di Shamgorod” di Elie Wiesel, “Golem”, “Un grembo due nazioni molte anime”, sulla storia degli ebrei in Italia durante il Risorgimento, “Il mare in valigia”, sulla poetessa ebrea tedesca Else Lasker-Schüler, “Caffe Odessa”, concerto/spettacolo sul concetto di musica ebraica, “Chouchani”, sul misterioso maestro di Levinàs e Wiesel, ”Messia e Rivoluzione”, sulla storia del Bund e “Lo Shabbat di tutti”, cena/spettacolo sul Sabato ebraico.
Sta per pubblicare con Giuntina il suo primo libro, “Ricette e Precetti”, su cibo e religioni, illustrato da Jean Blanchaert, in uscita nell’Aprile 2019.
Miriam Camerini was born in Jerusalem on Purim night of 1983, and has been a theatre person since then. She grew up in Milan, Italy, where she pursued a BA in Theatre Studies and Linguistics (2007), studied acting at Civica Scuola Paolo Grassi and singing with Lee Colbert and Camilla Barbarito. She worked as assistant director for Cesare Lievi at the Opera Theatre of Zürich, Switzerland (2004).
Miriam studied Bible and Rabbinic Literature at the Pardes Institute of Jewish Studies in Jerusalem (2007-2009) and worked as producer for The Jerusalem Theatre Company (2010). After moving back to Milan in 2011, Miriam has established her own Theatre (Benhashmashot) where she mostly stages plays related to Jewish Culture. She recently decided to become an orthodox Rabbi and is currently studying at Beit Midrash Har’El in Jerusalem. Her work has always focused on Jewish texts and stories and how to bring them to a wide and diverse audience. She believes interpretation is a key word to describe her work and artistic persona, because it bridges between the way we read texts and the way we “put them on stage”, allowing an encounter between Theatre and Jewish Tradition. Miriam is also a journalist and writer.
